How to Pick a Wedding Hashtag

Jul 18, 2017 | Wedding Tips

For many couples deciding on a hashtag has become a big part of wedding planning. As wedding planners, one of the things we will ask when we start planning your wedding is “do you have a hashtag?”

Why do I need a hashtag?

Most of your guests will have smart phones and will be taking selfies, and photos throughout your wedding festivities. Posting the photos and using your hashtag will allow you to search and find all the photos your guests share to various social media platforms.

If your guests share their images using your wedding hashtag you will be able to search and find all your wedding images on social media. Some of the most memorable images from your Big Day will be the candid photographs taken by your friends and family.

Do your research!

You want the hashtag to be as original as possible, easy to remember, short and relevant.  Big Day Weddings reminds you to search for the hashtag online to ensure no one else has had the same idea.  Be clever with your choices, for example, if your married name will be Lee consider using #HappiLEEmarried or #HappiLEEforever.

Share Your Hashtag

Share your hashtag with everyone to encourage your guests to post their photos instead of just keeping them on their phone.

It is always fun to include your hashtag on invitations to pre-wedding parties.  Posting a cute sign at the home where the party is being held is a good idea for encouraging guests to share the party pictures.

At Big Day Weddings one of our suggestions for sharing at the wedding venue is to create a cute chalkboard with your hashtag.  You can display the chalkboard on an easel or a table top.  For more clever ideas check out our Pinterest board.

Unplug your ceremony!

Remember to request only the professional photographer take photos during the ceremony. We know everyone will be so excited to share pictures of your beautiful wedding, but this can interfere with the ceremony and your professional photographer’s shot. Read our blog post about unplugged wedding ceremonies.

At Big Day Weddings we believe we create the most beautiful beach weddings on the Alabama Gulf Coast. We would love to assist you in planning your dream beach wedding. Call us today at (251) 223-7430 or contact us here.
